The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service agency that provides law enforcement service to Dunn County in West Central Wisconsin. Dunn County is over 850 square miles and approximately 50,000 residents. There are 14 villages, 22 townships, and the City of Menomonie, located within the county.

The Sheriff’s Office consists of approximately 59 full time employees, 5 part time employees, and up to 30 reserve deputies. Personnel are spread across many different divisions and handling many different operations of the agency, including Field Services, Jail, Support Services, Court Services & Civil Process, Patrol, Investigations, Records, and more.

Specialized units include K9, SWAT, UAV team, Recreation Patrol, Behavioral Health Officer, DARE, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), Investigations, Peer Support, and Drug Task Force.

SHERIFF KEVIN BYGD

The Office of Sheriff is created by the Wisconsin Constitution (Article VI, Section 4). It is an elected office in each county with a four year term. Consequently, the Sheriff is a constitutional officer who is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the County. The Sheriff’s duties are varied and for the most part are defined in the Wisconsin Statutes. These duties include, enforcing state law and County ordinances, maintaining the peace, running the jail, and serving both criminal and civil process.
