On Wednesday, March 28th at about 2:30 pm the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a boater on the Chippewa River in Dunn County who reported that he believed he found a human body submerged in the river in the area of CTH H and STH 85.

Deputies responded, assisted by Menomonie Fire Department and recovered the body of an adult male who appeared to have been in the water for some time.

An autopsy was done at the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office in St. Paul this morning. There were no obvious signs of injuries to the body that would lead investigators to believe there was any foul play.

The identification of the body is still being confirmed, but it is believed to be that of a missing person from the Eau Claire area. If that information is confirmed, more information may be released by authorities in Eau Claire at a later time.

The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a homicide.

On Friday, March 23rd the body of a 24-year-old Eau Claire man was discovered in a car in rural Springbrook township in Dunn County. Upon discovery of the body it was clear that his injuries were not self-inflicted. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dunn County Medical Examiner. The Wisconsin State Crime lab was contacted to assist with the collection of evidence and the Wisconsin State Patrol was brought in to assist with scaled mapping of the scene. An autopsy was completed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office in St. Paul on Saturday.
